It makes sense that the natural world is a recurrent theme in high jewelry and the 2025 Paris High Jewelry presentations showcased this in spectacular fashion. Natural diamonds, gold, and platinum are wonders forged by the forces that created our planet and never fail to ignite the imagination. High jewelry is, in many ways, the apex of our efforts to master these adamantine materials and bend them with our will to express our creativity. This winter, at Paris High Jewelry Week, the prevailing sentiment was to return to the source, where nearly every piece took its cues from what Mother Nature does best.

Boucheron’s winter collection finds creative director Claire Choisne in the extensive archives of Fr’ed’eric Boucheron, who, from his earliest days was drawn to the wild side of nature. In a collection entitled “Untamed Nature,” Choisne captures the humble inspiration that one can find in thistles, bumblebees, and here, the carrot flower. It is the only piece that does not directly reference a piece in the archives and introduces this little-discussed wildflower into the lexicon. The technical expertise to create the signature fluffy appearance required three different types of settings and bezels. Truly, this piece showcases that a Maison doesn’t need the largest carat weights to imbue a piece with the precious qualities of natural diamonds. Also pictured are brooches that capture the ladybug and housefly, rare in their execution and materials, though not rare creatures themselves.

The humble bee is known as the worker of the animal kingdom, keeping our world blooming and fragrant. Cartier sees the extraordinary in the quotidian, and the signature honeycomb of the beehive is represented in tiers of white and yellow natural diamonds set in micro-wires with a Fancy Intense yellow briolette cut diamond bee landing on the tip. Zoë Saldaña gave the world a preview on the 2025 Golden Globes red carpet and the piece clearly brought her luck as she brought home a win for her latest role.

De Beers’ Essence of Nature: Chapter One begins with trees. Nature is a central inspiration as well as a tenet for De Beers with the brand’s direct connection to the source of all its diamonds. “Nature is the force that drives our creativity, and we work hard to preserve its precious beauty through our Building Forever sustainability programs,” says Céline Assimon, CEO of De Beers Jewellers in a statement.

The Foundation necklace pays tribute to the strength of trees with two cascading rows of graduated diamonds arriving at an extraordinarily rare Fancy Deep Greyish Yellowish Green diamonds whose lush hue evokes the verdant natural world.

Victoire de Castellane, Dior’s Creative Director for High Jewelry, took a trip to Christian Dior’s country home in Milly-la-Forêt as a starting point for her latest High Jewelry collection. Monsieur Dior was known to be an avid gardener and he would have been inspired by the profusion and variety of diamond flowers in the Milly Dentelle Couture Fleurie necklace that also references the house’s strong background in exquisite lace. A yellow cushion cut diamond of over 8 carats centers a necklace of delicate rose gold and platinum lace bedecked with both white and yellow diamonds.

The Gift of Love necklace may be a single masterpiece but the 6,000 hours spanning its creation hallmark the piece as a testament to the work of Graff. The piece captures a precise moment with two sparrows midflight carrying a remarkable 13.51 carat Fancy Intense Yellow pear-shaped diamond. The sparrow is associated with the Greek goddess of love and beyond the diamond birds, the curve of the necklace is meant to capture the organic form of a diamond feather. The High Jewelry necklace features 2,305 pear-shaped round brilliant and baguette diamonds. Graff’s design director, Anne-Eva Geffroy, states in a press release that: “In life, we are surrounded by nature. This jewelry creation allows us to witness an enchanting interaction between two creatures who are in perfect harmony and acting with love.”

Harry Winston cites Mother Nature as the eternal muse of the house and their latest installment of Marvelous Creations is no exception. And while the cockatiel is often thought of as an elegant pet, Harry Winston uses a wide variety of cuts and both white and yellow diamonds as well as yellow and rose gold to capture the exotic, bright plumes that only nature could dream up.

Louis Vuitton’s Francesca Amfitheatrof was the rare creative director who did not turn to nature for her inspiration. The collection entitled Awakened Hands, Awakened Minds Chapter 2 is a thought-provoking meditation on how savoir-faire and science intersect to renew our culture’s momentum and reflect upon the advent of mechanical engineering. The masterpiece of the collection is undoubtedly the Victoire collar. The necklace is inspired by the Eiffel Tower and represents nearly 4,000 hours of work from the Maison’s atelier. 33 yellow diamonds run the length of the multi-tiered collar encircling a 10.43-carat internally flawless LV Monogram star cut diamond which could represent the famed sparkling of the tower at night.

Gaia Repossi, the artistic and creative director of the Maison, as a trained artist and archaeologist, is not someone who rests with one inspiration. The latest addition to the Blast collection is no exception. The Spiral ring is a form without an end and references the circle of light’s rays and the Japanese philosophy Enso, which holds that the spirit is without beginning or end. The ring features five pear-shaped diamonds totaling nearly 2 carats set variously akimbo on rose gold.

Elie Top celebrates ten years of his eponymous house with a focus on old mine-cut diamonds with Les Liaisons Dangereuses for his inspiration.  As the designer contemplated the life of diamonds, and how they adorn jewelry through the centuries, adding luster to former wearers, he landed on the romance of the 18th century and the famous intrigues of those famous lovers.  The seductive and brilliant Marquise de Merteuil inspired these girandole style earrings set in yellow gold and distressed silver with four old mine cut diamonds set in a concave gold mirror.  One can envision the plan within a plan in the mind of the cunning Marquise and the romance of those soft brilliant fires in these natural diamonds.
