Touched by a Diamond:
Framed Diamond Engagement Rings
What better way to stand out from the crowd, than with a truly unique engagement ring? Sure, a classic large solitaire diamond ring will turn heads, but one of these framed multi-diamond beauties will garner double takes, stares, and even a few oohs and aahs from on-lookers, not to mention the wearer. Diamond framed rings are set with multiple diamond either touching or almost touching with a seamless bezel setting that ultimately creates an illusion of one substantially sparkly and interestingly shaped, some project an almost multi-dimensional mosaic effect.
“We wanted to create a three-dimensional surface with diamonds, that was the initial inspiration for exploring this type of setting. It creates interesting and unusual shapes and a very modern look. A huge benefit is the fact that the diamond appears bigger,” says Tomer and Tanya designers of Artëmer. “An emerald cut with half-moons becomes an oval, a pear with a shield becomes a marquise – and you have the added benefit of having different types of sparkle coming from each stone,” states K Kane designer Katherine Kane.
One thing is for sure, designers love to create one-of-a-kind rings, and these styles allow them to get their creative juices flowing with each stone projecting a transformative presence when set side by side. “The oval shape of the diamonds inspired the design. I wanted to create a ring that connected many ovals to feel like one stone,” says Ming of Ming Jewelry. But inspiration can come from anywhere as Nuun Jewels founder Nourah Al Faisal explains. “My inspiration comes from a rich tapestry of sources – from the clean lines of modern architecture to the fluidity found in contemporary art. Rather than drawing from a single reference point, I allow multiple influences to blend organically, creating pieces that reflect both timeless elegance and modern sensibility.”
These designs aren’t as common as the popular as the toi et moi ring or the classic three-stone engagement ring and for good reason. They are some of the hardest jewels for designers to produce because of the minimal metal used in the setting and the ability to create perfectly cut stones.
It’s a delicate process that requires a lot of skill and patience. In fact, “It took almost two years of trying before we worked out how to cut and set the diamonds. Every single stone is a different shape deliberately,” says Benjamin Hawkins regarding a bespoke framed diamond engagement ring he created.
So, if you’re in the market for one of these custom stunners, we would recommend getting started right away to give you and the designer time to devise a master plan to produce a one-of-a-kind ring for you or your loved one’s finger. If this is the route for you, it is worth the wait. The more diamonds, the better.
Below, let these rings serve as inspiration for your unique engagement ring style.

Benjamin Hawkins Custom Oval and Bespoke Cut Diamond Ring
Designer Benjamin Hawkins explains “The seamless setting allows the diamonds to fade from yellow to white and grow from the equator up to the diameter of the central diamond without metal channels of one color disrupting the sparkle. It also shows the entirety of each diamond as they curve on the axis around the ring.”
K Kane “The Kerrie” Emerald Cut and Step Cut Half-Moon Diamond Ring
This “GIA certified Emerald Cut diamond, vertically set with two matching Step Cut Half Moons, in a handmade 18k Yellow Gold setting,” creates an illusion of one glistening oval stone and that’s exactly what designer Katherine Kane wanted when she first created it. It’s a ring associated with the phrase; “always stopped and given compliments.”
Nuun Jewels “Mirror” Diamond Ring
“By using bezel settings rather than traditional prongs, we create clean, flowing lines that enhance the stones’ natural brilliance,” states Nuun Jewels founder Nourah Al Faisal, which is accomplished in this design that features diamond-paved yellow gold, two small triangle diamonds, two portraits cut diamonds, and one cylinder diamond, totaling 5.75 carats.
